Sterling Stables is a small family run warmblood breeding & equestrian center. Each horse/pony is at the farm is treated with a personal touch. On occasion we are able to take horses for boarding, training, consignment or rehab. We aim to produce exceptional horses for the hunter and jumper rings at the highest level. Our mares are outstanding, accomplished show horses themselves. We offer only one or two babies each year. The select horses we produce and bring along are of extraordinary quality, and have gone on to be wonderful, successful show horses.
The farm is owned and operated by Debby Sterling and her husband Jon. Debby has grown up in the horse industry with the guidance of her mother, retired TB trainer/breeder Judy Cook. Judy operated River Run Farm, which is adjacent to Sterling Stables for many years. Throughout her youth, Debby exercised racehorses and broke-in thoroughbred babies for the racetrack along side her mother. She has reschooled many OTTB’s (Off Track Thoroughbred’s) for the show ring. In addition to working with racehorses, she began competing in equestrian events in 1973. Her equestrian career began in the hunter ring, with some dabbling in western riding as well, and later expanded to the jumper ring in 1982. Not limited to the hunter/jumper circuit, she has also evented in the Delmarva region.
Since 1992 Debby has been a middle school Visual Art Teacher in the Margate City School District. Her energy is now concentrated on her family, teaching art, working on the farm, and riding in occasional paper chases/hunter paces. Breeding and bringing along young warmbloods is her passion. Her husband Jon is a former Polo player, and seasoned farrier who travels to many counties in NJ for clients throughout Central and Southern New Jersey.
