Sterling Stables is a small family run warmblood breeding farm. Each horse/pony is at the farm is treated with a personal touch. On occasion we are able to take horses for boarding, consignment or rehab. We aim to produce exceptional horses for the hunter and jumper rings at the highest level. Our mares are outstanding, accomplished show horses themselves. We offer only one or two babies each year. The select horses we produce and bring along are of extraordinary quality, and have gone on to be wonderful, successful show horses.
The farm is owned and operated by me Debby Sterling and my husband Jon. I have grown up in the horse industry with the guidance of my mother, retired TB trainer/breeder Judy Cook. Judy operated River Run Farm, which is adjacent to Sterling Stables for many years. Throughout my youth, I exercised racehorses and broke thoroughbred babies for the racetrack along side my mother. I have reschooled many OTTB’s (Off Track Thoroughbred’s) for the show ring. In addition to working with racehorses, I began competing in equestrian events in 1973. My equestrian career began in the hunter ring, with some dabbling in western riding as well, and later expanded to the jumper ring in 1982. Not limited to the hunter/jumper circuit, I has also evented in the Delmarva region.
I have been brining along young horses for as long as I can remember. simultaneously working as a middle school Art and Technology teacher in the Margate City School District from 1992 until 2023 and raising my two sons. I recently retired from teaching after 31 years n the classroom. Since my retirement my energy is now concentrated on her family, raising our babies and working on the farm. Now and then I like to ride in occasional paper chases/hunter paces too. Breeding and bringing along young warmbloods is my passion. My husband Jon is a former Polo player, and seasoned farrier who travels to many counties in NJ for clients throughout Central and Southern New Jersey.
